The history of the company began back in 1936, when the Johnson brothers' mechanic-entrepreneurs decided to merge with the newly formed company Evinrude.
The resulting corporation was called OMC, and over the years it has led a fairly successful business. In particular, it was in the corporation's design workshops that such innovative solutions as electric start, exhaust through the propeller hub, and a system for controlling revolutions and automatically reducing them when the engine overheated were first applied.
